Pat Wells,
Actually, breeding for individual traits ruins dogs, by inbreeding genetic flaws. Dogs bred for short snouts have breathing issues, other breeds drool more, Rottweilers are prone to cancer, Anita's are prone to hip dysplasia, etc. The flaws in "pure-breds" are a direct result of selective breeding. I will choose a mixed breed anytime.
We had King Charles cavaliers but the have heart problems at a young age, this one we have now is is a Cavachon, Cavalier and Bichon, they reckon that it stops the early heart problems.
Mixed are not breeds; they are mixes and crossing any and every dog ruins individual breeds. Any good breeder knows that. I don't breed, but own a rescue and see some crazy crosses.
