It is not a myth.
In ancient Roman architecture, vomitoria were designed to provide rapid egress for large crowds at amphitheatres and stadia, as they do in modern sports stadia and large theatres.
The word does not mean a place to vomit food. It is an egress.

The last time France used the guillotine was on September 10, 1977, when Hamida Djandoubi, a Tunisian migrant worker, was executed in Marseille for the torture and murder of his girlfriend, Elisabeth Bousquet. The execution was bloody and unpleasant, and came at a time when capital punishment was already being debated in France.
