R Yancey, you’re correct of course, however the coral snake is venomous not poisonous. They along with copperheads, cottonmouths (also called water moccasins) and rattle snakes are all venomous and endemic to Texas. King snakes, the other snake depicted in the quizz, eats rats and mice and other snakes. They are highly resistant to rattlesnake venom and dine on them routinely.

Lois Young, I really wish those who down vote a remark could be identified. You are absolutely correct and as a person who lives where coral snakes are endemic it’s relevant to know the difference between the deadly coral snake and the extremely beneficial scarlet king snake and scarlet snakes both featuring red and black bands (the king snake even sports yellow bands). The old rhyme is red and black safe for Jack, red and yellow kill a fellow. It surely is the authors taking exception to having their errors pointed out for all to see.

The snake answer was wrong, yellow touching red can kill a fellow. Coral snake shown on the right is poisonous.

Their answer to number 3 is inconsistent. They say the correct answer is the picture on the left, yet they show the picture on the right.
