buhlemann, couldn’t agree with you more. Here in Australia we might choose a Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay with soft cheese, because we don’t drink Chablis (it isn’t a wine name used here).

Only four of the questions are actually about common wine knowledge. The rest are area specific and assume that everyone is interested in drinking predominantly European wines. We in the Southern hemisphere make wines that are every bit as good if not better than any in the rest of the world, but don’t use the same wine varietal names.

The wine and soft cheese question is a matter of taste and what types of soft cheese. I have had a Sauternes with a soft cheese that matched perfectly, and I have had some Chablis that was too tart for the cheese.

Like calculus and chemistry, this is an area that deserves a lot of close study...something I'm not great at, any longer, since I'm old--but I applaud all of those who know their wines! :>)
