So many people don’t know the full rule. “ I before E except after C, unless sounded like “ay “ as in neighbour and weigh.” There are still exceptions as well; neither,weird, height, foreign, leisure forfeit either . And it only applies to English spelling, so foreign words used in English may well not follow the rule.

The rule is "i" before "e" except after "c" when the sound is "ee". Weird and seize are exceptions, also leisure depending how you pronounce it!
