johnedaura, a "true tree" as you mention has a strong, hard trunk, and bark, whereas banana, and plantain trees have a trunk and bark that is soft with the feel and texture of a plant, not a tree.

I grow carrots and they are root vegetables so they do not grow on trees or vines. They can also be found in supermarkets.

6/6 I imagine kids from the so called civilized world would answer: Supermarket. Fortunately for me I grew up in a farm in Kenya where we grew most of our food. Never did I know that I was raised only on "organic" food.

Dianne Bahr, bananas are actually a herb. Not a tree. Hence, tree like plant sounds good to me.
