Howard Clink,
No.
6÷2(1+2)=
6÷2(3)=
3(3)=9
An additional set of brackets is necessary for the answer to be 1.
The equation would then be written as:
6÷[2(1+2)]=
6÷[2(3)]=
6÷6=1
The problem with the acronyms, BODMAS & PEMDAS, is that people don't understand how to use them.
There are actually only FOUR steps.
1. Brackets or Parentheses
2. Orders or Exponents
3. Multiplication AND Division
These functions carry equal weight in an equation and are done in the order they appear in the equation from left to right. Which function we apply first depends upon how the equation is written. Multiplication doesn't always come before Division and vice versa.
4. Addition and Subtraction also carry equal weight in an equation and are done in the order they appear in the equation from left to right.

arinchaliha,
The answer to question #1 is correct. It is 9.
Like many people, you probably think multiplication is always done before division, but that is a mistake. Multiplication and division carry equal weight in solving equations, so the functions are done in the order they appear in the equation from left to right. In this case, division precedes multiplication so it is done first.
