That is not what a new moon is.
A new moon is not a crescent at all. It is a lunar phase that occurs when the moon is between the Earth and the sun, with the moon's dark side facing Earth. During a new moon, the moon is invisible because sunlight falls on the side of the moon that is not facing Earth.

I don’t normally complain but this is nothing to do with the moon, it’s about human superstition. Just title it right, that’s all I ask.

Not the right picture. Pointing at the new moon. It’s was a full moon he pointed at. A new moon is just a creasant, like a thin banana.
