R Yancey, it is an organ. Just like the heart, it is a muscle.

Michel Giroux, An organ is a collection of tissues and cells of the body that perform a specific function. The word organ comes from the Latin word organum, which means tool or instrument.

R Yancey, Yes, the diaphragm is an organ and the main muscle of respiration in humans and other mammals. It's a thin, dome-shaped sheet of muscle and tendon that sits below the lungs and heart, separating the chest from the abdomen:

R Yancey, The diaphragm is indeed an organ. Organs are defined as a collection of tissues that structurally form a functional unit specialized to perform a particular function. Without your diaphragm, you could not breath. The diaphragm is a muscle that helps you inhale and exhale. That means the diaphragm qualifies as an organ. It is as important as your heart and lungs are. You would die without it. The diaphragm is an organ.
