mikeyparry, explain number 5 to us then. There are two people looking at other people, how do we know which one the question refers to? Or did you just guess?

tyafter, actually the people who are objecting are Americans. We refer to y as a semi vowel in British English, and it most certainly can act as a vowel. I’m not sure where you were educated, but I think you missed out on some grammar lessons.

Player Dennis, all I can think of is that in British English we usually refer to y as a semi vowel and are taught that it can “act” as a vowel, but is not a vowel. I agree that in the word many it is acting as a vowel, but I didn’t count it as such when I added up the vowels.

dwilliamsmustang, Thankyou! I thought I was missing something. There are two people looking at others, and we only know that one of them is married.

Libraries are places where books are protected. Book covers are places where pages are protected.

iainmac, If Mary is unmarried and Sean is looking at her or If she is married and she's looking at Ronan then it makes no diff. A married person is looking at an unmarried one.

Y is not a vowel...and never has been. What's with you Brits?

"Y" can be a vowel. "W" - maybe. In either case, the question is open to interpretation. Not good.

As suggested below, "y" is a vowel, and was taught as such when I went to school. Words like "try" would be hard to explain if this were not the case.
