The order of operations is crucial. You have first to solve the operation in the parentheses 2+1=3 then multiply by 2 =6 and only then perform the division. Result 1

PEMDAS/BODMAS applies. Once you've added the 1 and 2 in parenthesis, you then have 6 divided by 2(3). The parentheses now merely indicate a multiplication problem of 2 x 6. Now you simply go from left to right, 6 divided by 2 = 3, and 3 x 3 = 9. This is correct.
