1. The name "bayan" exists only in Russia. Other countries call this instrument "the button accordion".
2. The first concert multi-tone quality bayan was made in 1951 for Russian bayan-player Yury Kuznetsov.
3. Electronic versions of the bayan were produced in the Soviet Union. However, there was no demand for such an innovation as the musical keyboard came into the market at the same time.
4. During the Great Patriotic War the sound of the bayan elevated soldier's morale and encouraged them to fight selflessly. Many people played it here, there and everywhere.
5. In recent years, Russian say "bayan" when they are irritated by a joke that had been repeated many times before. This saying originates from, apparently, a joke that featured the above-mentioned instrument.
