Stephen Huskisson,
Think again.
• Cheese was likely first invented accidentally around 8,000 to 10,000 BCE in the Fertile Crescent (modern-day Middle East) following the domestication of sheep and goats.
• Bread was first invented approximately 14,000 to 14,500 years ago (around 12,000 BC) by Natufian hunter-gatherers in the Black Desert of northeastern Jordan.
• While early, hard, bread-like versions date back to antiquity, the modern sweet, leavened biscuit/cookie evolved in Persia around the 7th century, later spreading to Europe through trade and the Crusades.
• The earliest recorded, recognizable pancakes appeared in Ancient Greece and Rome around 500–600 B.C., often made with flour, olive oil, honey, and curdled milk.
USA inventing pancakes? Absolute b/s - France made crepes and the UK were eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday long before the USA was invented. They'll be claiming 'computers' and 'motor cars' next.
Hacksteak Hamburger Art is German, and refers to the meat, usually served without a bun. "Burger" refers to what is in the photo - a sandwich with a bun and, often added items like tomato, cheese, lettuce, pickle, etc. That was invented in the US. Also, the Dutch think they invented pannenkoeken = pancakes. Similarly, the Argentinians claim Empanadas.
