Not everyone is a dog lover but still it can hardly be denied that corgies are really cute. Well, we can’t blame their fans because these dogs are indeed the most charming!

#1 It Takes Two

Actually there are two types of Welsh corgis: the Pembroke Welsh corgi and the Cardigan Welsh corgi… and they have come from different ancestors. Their remarkable resemblance is a result of crossbreeding in the 19th century. Physically, the Cardigan and Pembroke are both dwarf breeds with large heads and heavy, long bodies on short, thick legs. However, Cardigans have a long, foxlike tail whereas Pembrokes have their tail docked close to their body. Did you know that?

#2 Corgis Were Originally Used As Herders

These cuties are not purely decorative, they can work hard. The Welsh used the short dogs as herders as early as the 10th century. They are of the type of herding dog referred to as "heelers", meaning that they would nip at the heels of the larger animals to keep them on the move. The combination of the low height off the ground and innate agility of corgis would allow them to avoid the hooves of cattle. There is also a folk legend that says сorgis were a gift from the woodland fairies, and that the breed's markings were left on its coat by fairy harnesses and saddles.

#3 They Are Royal Dogs

Queen Elizabeth has loved corgis for over 80 years. Her very first corgi was bought in 1933 by her father, King George VI, when he was still the Duke of York. Elizabeth, then 7 years old, and her younger sister Margaret named the deep-chestnut puppy Dookie and fell for him instantly. Elizabeth II has owned more than 30 corgis since she became Queen of the Commonwealth realms in 1952. In 2007, Elizabeth II had five corgis: Monty, Emma, Linnet, Willow, and Holly. Monty, Willow, and Holly appeared in the 2012 Olympic opening ceremony. Her final corgi, Willow, died in April of 2018.

#4 Corgi Is One of The Cleverest Breeds

Statistically, corgis are ranked in the upper tier of doggie intelligence. #11 is pretty good. High intelligence and trainability often go hand-in-hand, however, a smart pooch can be more difficult to control than a dumber dog because bright dogs quickly learn how to manipulate their masters to their own advantage. So, cute corgis are little manipulators as well.

Corgis have become an integral part of the Internet, and if you weren't aware, they've slowly taken over Instagram as well. Users love them because of their cuteness, especially their butts and tiny Pembroke Welsh corgis’ tails. By the way, corgi butts in Japan are called "momo" because they resemble peaches.
