Many people do not imagine their lives without dogs. It's no wonder they are called man's best friends. Large and small, furry and short-haired, these creatures give their owners an incredible amount of positive emotions. However, dogs not only become our great friends, companions, guards, assistants and even nurses, but they are also able to teach us several crucial truths.

#1 Enjoy the moment

Dogs have a good memory, for example, they remember people they met earlier, where their food and treats are, the way to get home. However, they use this information only when they really need it and live in the present. Past events are behind us, the future is unknown to us and there's nothing you can do about it. Present is the only time we can influence. So why don't we start enjoying life right now?

#2 Love helps to overcome fear

You probably heard many stories about aggressive and evil dogs that became kind beings in loving and caring families. If a dog is able to overcome fear, people can do it too. Love really can work wonders. So, if you replace fear with love for yourself, your life will become easier.

#3 Hold no grudge

Apparently, of all the living creatures only people feel anger. Your pet is never offended when you forget to treat him with something delicious after dinner. Anger affects our emotional state in a really bad way and prevents us from moving forward. So don't hold hard feelings, release them, and you will gain personal freedom.

#4 Play every day

Sometimes dogs are willing to play all day long. It can serve as a good reminder to us humans of the need to be active. Dogs give their owners a great reason to get out of the house. You can not only just walk and play outside with your pet but also to go hiking, jogging or cycling.

#5 Jump for joy and happiness

Surely you've seen dogs happily jumping up or twirling around their owners in expectation of a walk or play. Wouldn't it be wonderful if people could also openly show their emotions? In the modern world we are constantly in a hurry and sometimes forget to stop for a second and enjoy something pleasant.

#6 Accept yourself as you are

Can you imagine a Terrier that dreams of becoming a boxer or a poodle or wants to have Greyhound's nose? Of course not. However, we spend a lot of time trying to do everything to conform to certain notions of beauty and perfection, instead of to loving unique features of our appearance. It would be so boring if all dogs or people looked the same!

#7 Enjoy the process

During a road trip, dogs often stick their head out the window of a car, sniffing the air and enjoying the wind in their hair. They don't care where they're are going, they just enjoy the ride! Of course, it is very important to set goals. However, we often get hung up on the result, ignoring the process itself.

#8 Be faithful and reliable

Dogs are pack animals. They play with members of their pack, protect and love them. It's a great example that we should follow. Be a loyal and trusted friend, partner, brother or parent and you will make your life brighter.

#9 Love unconditionally

Dogs love us unconditionally, no matter what. Your pet will be happy to lick your face, even if you just yelled at him. Dog instantly forgive us regardless of our behavior. The ability to love others the way dogs do it is a very difficult task. However, our world would certainly be much better if we just tried to do the same.

Have had so many dogs& cats in my life and have wonderful memories of all of them .I now have a 16 yr old Scruffy Jack Russell who follows me everywhere as he is deaf as a post plus an 8 year old cat who talks to me constantly ..love them both unconditionally & they return my love to them in abundance .

We lost our dachshund last August to cancer and it left a huge hole in our life. Our daughter, recognizing our sorrow and depression got us a puppy for Christmas which has helped a lot to get us back to normal. Being retired we have lots of time to spend with her and she brings us such joy every day with her puppy antics. We still miss our boy and will always hold him in our hearts. There is always room for more love.

I love dogs! They are loyal and loving. With cats is different, they have to choose you. As a little girl I was very lucky, a little cat loved me and he was looking after me all day. I never experienced something like this again. Dogs are not so complicated and respond eagerly to kindnesses.

I LOVE to stay home with my dog! I read and he sleeps and snores!! haha and dreams of chasing cats and possums!! We rescued him on day 29 at the shelter! And he thanks us each and every day! And I thank him for protecting all of my family!!
