Food is meant not only for hunger satisfaction. It brings delight and stress relief. You probably know the best tasting food in the world. But do you know what apples and roses or mushrooms and insects have in common? Let's check these and some other crazy facts!
#1 Genetics defines your drinking coffee habits
There are six genes that are responsible for caffeine metabolism. It explains why caffeine has a different effect on people. The speed of caffeine metabolism depends on certain genes variations, so if you are a slower metabolizer, you'll feel the effect of caffeine for a longer period of time.
#2 Cold potato is better for your health
Cold cooked potato is a good source of low-density energy. It is better than hot while in hot potato the starch becomes digestible and its glycemic index is higher. If you cool down potato it gets more resistant starch which is good for our digestive system.
#3 Each ear of corn contains an even number of rows
This is true for all ears of corns. And is not the only surprising fact about corn. There are a lot of things that are made of it. Fireworks are also in this list! They contain dextrin, that is usually made of corn, as a binder.
#4 Cotton candy was invented by a dentist
It was William Morrison, who gave us that sweet fairy floss in 1897.
#5 Pistachio nuts сan spontaneously combust
This applies only to large amounts of raw nuts during transportation. These nuts contain a lot of oil and a very small amount of water, so inappropriate storage can cause self-heating and even combustion.
#6 Roses and apples are in the same family
Many fruits including apples belong to the Rosaceae family. That means they are the close relatives of roses!
#7 Mushrooms as well as insects contain chitin
Chitin is a polysaccharide that is found in mushrooms, in the exoskeleton of insects and fish. Chitin forms solid structures, for example, insect wings. This polysaccharide is also the reason why mushrooms can't be overcooked.
#8 Sunblocks and salad sauces have one common ingredient
Titanium dioxide is used not only in sunscreens but in food production as well. It is used in salad sauces, candies, sweets and yoghurts. Though titanium dioxide reflects ultraviolet light and works as a preservative, it can be dangerous for our health.

If titanium dioxide is dangerous to our health, then why do we put this stuff in salad sauces, candies,etc. ?

Titanium dioxide is also used in white paint, due to being bright white. I think also some toothpaste too.
