I call BS on shortest war. The shortest war, well, maybe just a battle was the Conch Republic against the US Navy. For an extended period of time, the Floridian police would search the cars on the A1A highway for drugs or illegals creating traffic jams that were reported to be epic. The locals did everything they could to end this tyranny to no avail. The locals in Key West decided after several hours of drinking that they were going to succeed and become The Conch Republic, and they would attack the Naval base there. They >gasp< had no real weapons, so they launched an attack with day old Cuban bread. They threw mightily at the sailors, and to their horror, the sailors threw it BACK!!! After a very hellaciously drunken attack, the locals SURRENDERED!!! They declared they had been out fought, and then, like all foreign conquered countries, filed for foreign aid. This is a mostly true story, and any real Key West resident can tell you about it. It is also re enacted every year.

Fact 3; 200-250 Slave ships were captured and either destroyed or converted for normal service. Fact 4; 17,000 British sailors died during the years of operation 1807-1870. The phrase 'Perfidious Albion was first used by the French playwright Augustin Louis de Ximenes in 1793, at the height of the Napoleonic Wars.

Did Pope Gregory IX declare that Satan was half-cat EX CATHEDRA? If he did, I'm sure that this is one doctrine of the faith that was changed. Later church officials probably declared it to be a legislative act, in order to get off the hook. Interesting how the plague was possibly made worse by this Papal act. God's punishment, perhaps?

Re: No.5 and the British war in Zanzibar: It is said the Sultan had slaves while the UK had control there. Well, didn't the UK end the slave trade and slavery circa 1833? If they had control of this area after 1890, taking it from Germany, didn't they nullify their end to slavery, especially since they said they used ships in the area, circa 1870, to prevent the slave trade as carried out by Arab ships. Somebody is lying here. Hence the expression "Perfidious (lying) Albion (the UK)."

There was a very Canadian rebellion in Toronto. I could look up the year but I won't. The opposing forces advanced on each other on Yonge Street. Both sides fled in disarray.
