I have always treated my dogs as children and loved them as children. They are more self sufficient but they return the love.

I think it's nice to think of our dogs as having human traits. Dogs have dog traits that we recognize as human-like. For a dog's sake, treat them like dogs they are not human beings. It could be very dangerous to forget their specie.
