The animal world of the Bahamas is very poor and is represented mainly by birds and several species of lizards. That's why it's really surprising that a few dozen of pigs were able to settle in one of the islands.

No one knows how exactly the animals got to the island. There is an assumption that they were landed here a long time ago by a team of a ship sailing nearby to pick them up and eat them on the way back, but for some reason they couldn't do it. Another guess is that the pigs simply escaped during the wreck of the ship that carried the animals. The fact that in addition to pigs, several goats and cats also live on the island somehow proves the second assumption.

The island quickly became a tourist attraction, so you shouldn't worry about these animals -
they always have plenty of water and food.

The island belongs to my son's father-in-law and the pigs were introduced for two reasons. 1. Tourist attraction and 2. Pork!

Yes, they are cute. But, they forage and destroy the ecosystem. All over the world pigs, goats, rabbits etc have been dumped by people (usually Europeans) for future food. With disastrous consequences for the native flora and fauna.
