How can overweight and obesity be prevented? Learn more about this major problem

This educational video throws light on a problem which has become a real global epidemic of our time.

  • Chronic malnutrition was the norm for most of our history! That's why, in prehistoric times, evolution favored humans who could retain more nutrients by stocking more fat;
  • The body fat became problematic only in the 18th century, as the quality of food improved;
  • Obesity is most often caused by energy imbalance. This means that our body stores extra calories as fat when the input from calories is greater than the output from physical activity;
  • On the average, an adult should be getting at least 2.5 hours of exercise a week to stay healthy;
  • Obesity is an escalating global epidemic, which raises the probability of diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure and other diseases;
  • People suffer from obesity in both developed and developing countries!
  • The more overweight a person is, the harder it is for him or her to climb to recovery.

    You'd think so but not always. Sometimes there are medical issues that get in the way. I go to the gym every day & have friends there that are very overweight. They don't want to be that way but in their older age are on medicines that cause weight gain &/or have medical issues that cause it too. So never judge a book by it's cover, you might be embarrased if they explain why to you.

    Some people are over weight because of the medication(s) they are on not their diet. Otherwise the info was very useful.

    Personally I think, moderation in all things, including moderation. I would NEVER give up cheese.

    Go on Atkins. I was on it for two weeks, and when I came off, I couldn't even force myself to be interested in anything sugary.

    Hang in there. It can take as long as one more month to lose the taste for sugar. Stay off of it, break the cycle, and never go back. Even if you don't lose a lot of weight because of the other problem, your daily blood sugar spikes should be way more manageable and you may be able to avoid diabetes.
