These facts will completely change your idea of healthy nutrition
Is it possible to lose weight or to gain muscle mass without food restriction? Some nutritionists say it is. However, Internet provides us with lots of information that is very misleading. Let's take a look at some facts that can help to make the right choice on the way to health.
#1 Food industry
Have you noticed the difference in price between fast food and high-quality convenience food? The last is more expensive. Food manufacturers know that healthy food is in high demand and people are ready to spend money on it. However, buying fresh meat, vegetables and grains is cheaper. So if you want to avoid junk food and not to overpay for convenience food be ready to spend a couple of hours on food preparation. What is more, in this case, you'll get healthier meals.
#2 Are carbs really bad?
At present, it is hard to understand which food is good and which is bad for our health. Some time ago proteins were considered to be harmful. Today the same is said about carbs. Indeed, this is true if we're talking about different kinds of pastry, sweets and jams. And it has nothing to do with berries or сomplex carbohydrates, such as grains. The real problem here is connected with added sugars and calorie-dense foods consume every day.
#3 Juice vs carbonated drinks
At first sight, the choice is obvious: fruit juice is healthier than sugary beverages. However, let's take a closer look. It turns out that the amount of sugars (both natural and added) in juices is no less than in soda. Unfortunately, the amount of fiber we get from a glass of juice is lesser than the amount of sugar in it. So if your goal is to lose weight, you'd better have a whole fruit which is rich in vitamins than a glass of juice.
#4 Snacks make no good
No matter what you have for a snack - kale chips or dried fruit- you'll get more calories than from fresh fruit and vegetables. The reason is simple: fresh fruits and veggies contain 70% of water while dried of processed lose 95% of water! As for fruit chips, they are also coated with oils after dehydration, so they contain added sugars. If you want to avoid weight gaining and insulin resistance, please consider the amount of calories and sugars you'll get.
#5 Diet: perception and reality
We think that diet means small portions of plain food. Some people reduce the number of meals to one a day feeling exhausted, hungry and unhappy. In reality, to be on a diet means to control the number of calories you take. The best way is to count the number of calories you get daily and to reduce it by 15%. Take a moment to calculate the energy value of different dishes in order not to feel hungry after eating a meal. What matters most is your understanding of the difference between physical and emotional hunger.
