What are some mind-blowing facts from the animal kingdom?

1.Pandas are asexual

Pandas aren't truly asexual but its interesting that 60% of captive male Pandas feel no sexual desire whatsoever. Why pandas held in captivity you may ask? This is because in truth female pandas are fertile for such a short time the timing is usually only right in the wild.

2. Cows have best friends

According to a study conducted by researchers at the University of Northampton, cows have strong social bonds and display physical symptoms of stress when they’re away from their BFF.

3. The Pyrenean Ibex is the only animal to have gone extinct, twice

The last natural-born Pyrenean ibex (named Celia) died in 2000, rendering the animal extinct. However, scientists were able to revive the ibex through cloning. A clone was born in 2003 but died after several minutes, making the Pyrenean ibex extinct for the second time.

4.Sharks have been on the earth longer than trees

The earliest species we classify as a tree lived around 350 million years ago, but sharks have that beat. The earliest shark lived 400 million years ago!

5. Manatee niples

Manatee nipples are located in their armpits.

No, I don’t really know what you’re supposed to do with that information, but aren’t you glad you have it?

6. Tarantula hunger

These spiders can go more than two years without food. I really wish I could go that long.

7. There’s a jellyfish species that can age backwards

The so-called ‘immortal jellyfish’ can turn itself back into a baby repeatedly in times of crisis. If the fish faces physical damage, starvation, or another crisis, it is able to “transform all of its existing cells into a younger state,” according to Pia Miglietta, a researcher at Pennsylvania State University.

The jellyfish, which is only about the size of a small fingernail at its adult size, transforms into a cyst that looks blob-like. It then turns into a polyp colony, and begins its life cycle anew. This colony spawns genetic copies of the adult – hundreds of them, in fact.

8. Cardinals like to cover themselves in ants

Cardinals (along with several other bird species) sometimes cover themselves in crushed or living ants, smearing them over their feathers, or allowing living ants to crawl on them. While scientists still aren’t sure what the purpose of “anting” is, some believe the birds use the formic acid secreted during their ant bath to help get rid of lice and other parasites.

9.Snakes have legs

Snakes may have evolved to not need legs but they still have them. In certain snakes their legs have reemerged but they are still for the most part useless vestigial features.

10. Crocodiles have the most sophisticated heart in the animal kingdom

The heart of a crocodile can actively change the destination of blood that flows through it depending on requirements.

Bull certainly have good friends. My father grew up in his uncle´s "estancia" or ranch, in Brazil, and petted a small calf whom he named "Berruguin·, that could be translated as "Little Wart". The alf grew up and was sold to another rancher to sire his cows, and the bull acquired a reputation for agressiveness. A couple of years later, my father visited with the neighboring rancher, and was warned of the bull's bad temper, but suddenly, the bull spotted my father and run up to him but stopped to nuzzle him gently on his chest. My father exclaimed "Berruguín" and the fearsome bull kept nuzzling him, delighted to find his old friend.

Wow! I'd love to do what the jellyfish do. Then none of us would want cosmetic surgery. Just turn back into a 15-year-old! How cool is that!
