I absolutely adore asparagus , often have it and have all my life I am now 98.I used to eat it raw but now I lightly steam it ( after washing it) then I drink the water .It certainly stimulates the kidneys and bladder .So does celery ,cucumber ,courgettes ,watermelon and many others but asparagus is the delicacy,do try it .

Ii love asparagus,I just plonk it on hot water let it go to the boil ,then take it straight out & drizzle with butter,fantastic!!

It grew in our garden when I was a child and I hated it when mom cooked it. Later I bought a can of it and ate it, now I love it, but not cooked from raw. The smell rather puts me off.
