ANITA CALPITO...Nope, they're not the same thing, at all. I've known this, for years. Yams don't grow here! They only grow in places, like Africa, Asia, Central and South America, and Oceania. So, what people, here, in the USA call Yams, are actually Sweet Taters! I love Sweet Tater Pie! :)

Thank you for clarifying the differences between yams and sweet potatoes.I knew that yams were white inside and sweet potatoes were orange ,but I didn't know yams are indigenous to Africa,thus causing the confusion.

Yam has a thick coarse covering, a sweet potato has a rather smooth skin
