#1 If it wasn't for the abbreviation problem, they would be named the Bay State Patriots
The team moved to Foxboro in 1971. As a result of the location change, the Patriots decided to adopt a new name – the Bay State Patriots. When everyone noticed that the abbreviation would be The BS Patriots, this name was rejected and quickly changed to the New England Patriots.
#2 In 1960, they won the first-ever AFL pre-season game
They played against the Buffalo Bills at War Memorial Stadium in Buffalo and won 28–7.
#3 The original logo on their helmets was a tri-corner hat
Since 1993, the Patriots' helmets have been adorned with the "Flying Elvis" logo.

#4 In 1970, their game was interrupted by a fire
The fire beneath the bleachers at Alumni Stadium was caused by a popcorn machine. Fortunately, no one was hurt, there were enough new seats, and the game continued. It goes without saying that popcorn sales quickly went down.
#5 In 1982, a convict on work release became a part of Patriots' lore
Mark Henderson worked as a snowplow operator at Schaefer Stadium. During the Patriots' game with the Miami Dolphins, he cleared a part of field where Patriot kicker John Smith hit the winning field goal. It made Henderson a celebrity.
