9 amazing discoveries that were never announced
Every day scientists make sensational discoveries, which contradict everything written in books and completely change our apprehension of life on Earth.
Here are 9 incredible findings that will make you reconsider everything you knew before.
In 2012, in Dawson County, Montana, paleontologist Otis Kline Jr. found a phytivorous triceratops' frontal horn during another excavation. After some research had been done, the scientists made an amazing discovery: the dinosaurs' age is about 33,5 thousand years. Such statement contests the opinion that reptiles vanished more than 65 million years ago. Thus, it is quite possible that prehistoric people lived on Earth together with dinosaurs.
At the present time 98% of Antarctica's territory in covered with a thick ice layer. However, this continent is believed to have been a tropical one millions years ago.
Exploring the territory of Antarctica, scientists found petrified remains of heat-loving plants, such as African baobabs and fern, together with remains of ichthyosauri. The latter is one of the ancient reptilians that used to live in warm areas. This wonderful discovery made the researchers come to a conclusion that more than 50 million years ago palms were growing on the coast of the coldest place on Earth and the ocean water was warm.
Some hypothesis say, the Romans had been to continental America long before Columbus. A ceramic figurine head found under the floor of an ancient building in Mexico in 1933 can serve as an evidence hereof. It is different from other samples of local artwork, but reminds of Roman sculptures created back in II century. Moreover, researchers found artifacts in the waters of Guanabara bay in Rio-de-Janeiro that belong to Roman culture and are dated as far as III century. That allowed one of the theories to say the Romans were the first to discover this continent.
Another mystery that makes researchers scratch their heads is that of the stone spheres found in Costa Rica. They are perfectly round and made of different types of rock: limestone, sandstone and igneous rock. They weigh up to 16 tons.
It is known that many of these stones used to form various figures like triangles, lines and even astronomic configurations. However, the immediate purpose of the spheres left for us by ancient civilizations remains unknown.
We all know Egyptian pyramids are the most tremendous and unique structures on our planet. However, in 2005 an amateur archeologist Semir Osmanagich came out with a sensational statement: there are pyramids remaining in Bosnia, that are much older and bigger than the Egyptian ones. Scientists of the world were extremely skeptic about such news and even provided data, proving that mountain Visochitsa, taken for a pyramid by the researcher, is a natural formation and not an artificial structure.
Nevertheless, Osmanovich vehemently rejects such skepticism. Who knows, perhaps, one day the researcher will be able to prove he's right.
There is a brisk on-going arguing among historians about whether or not Atlantis existed. To add to this, a recent discovery made many naysayers among scientists change their mind.
During a regular submerging in the waters of Gela in Sicily, an amateur diver Franco Cassarino made an amazing discovery - 39 ingots of an unknown origin. They have been buried under a wreckage of a sunken ship for 2,5 thousand years. Expert evaluation showed metal of the ingots to be orichalcum - alligation of several solids. Archeologists claim, analysis results prove there once existed a prosperous nation. In fact, Plato mentions orichalcum in his writings as a metal popular in Atlantis.
In several states of the USA scientists found thousands of cave drawings, part of which is identified as Old Chinese written language.
Researchers came to a conclusion that the Asian came to the Northern part of today's USA around 1300s BC - much earlier than Columbus and even the Romans.
The question "Is there life on Mars?" has always been a reason for heated discussions. Recently though, a discovery has been made, that may help scientists come to a unified answer.
Researchers found out the Red Planet was covered by a huge ocean in the past. Data obtained from the satellites and Mars rover vehicles indicate that once this planet was much warmer than today and part of its surface was covered with liquid water. This finding brings an opportunity to suggest that once Mars was actually an inhabited planet.
In 1886, trying to find a remedy for drug addiction, pharmacist John Pemberton invented Wine Coca, a very strong tonic to stimulate brain activity. It contained alcohol and cocaine. But soon after temperance legislation had been enacted, the chemist replaced alcohol with cola nut juice brought from Africa. The resulting drink turned out to be indeed a powerful energizer.
At that time coca-cola was yet without gas and sold in drug stores as a hang-over remedy, needed to be mixed with water. One day a customer mixed it with soda water and exclaimed, "That's incredible!". The recipe was immediately changed to include soda water and cocaine was soon removed.
