#1 A Maine Coon is the largest domesticated cat you can get

An average male weighs from 13 to 18 lb (5.9 to 8.2 kg), while an average female is from 8 to 12 lb (3.6 to 5.4 kg). Maine Coons can grow as tall as 16 in (41 cm).

#2 It's unknown when the breed started

Maine Coons were first mentioned in a 1861 literary work about cats, but all the information about their ancestral origins known today is nothing but speculation.

Stewie, a 8-year-old Maine Coon from Nevada who was 48.5 in (123 cm) long, was registered as the longest domestic cat in the world in 2010. Stewie passed away in 2013. The current record holder is Barivel (in the picture), a Maine Coon who is 120 cm (3 ft 11.2 in) long.

What a wonderful cat!! I would love to have one to love ... if I were younger and still had the strength to pick one up. My last cat was a beautiful calico (Cali) to weighed over 15 pounds and adding her carrier, I was lugging around 17-18 lbs! A bit much for an old lady...

A friend of mine owns one. He's reserved, somewhat shy, but always curls up inside my suitcase when I visit as if it's his bed. Apparently I'm the only guest he'll share "his" bedroom with!

I used to have one he lived till he was 21 or there abouts?. I rescued him and the vet said he was about 4 when I took him on. He was very affectionate and the most vocal cat I’ve ever had. He never wandered very far from home I think animals know when they have been rescued. Love and miss you Wills 💋

We have 2 of them here, and they’re so so mellow! Bigger than our 3rd little rescue, but lots and lots of fur—everywhere! But their personality is divine, and I can’t imagine life without any of them ❤️❤️❤️
