Nature Story: Rarest fruits you should really try at least once

Fruits are tasty and contain a lot of nutrients that are good for our health. Many of them can easily be found on grocery store shelves. However, there are fruits which are very rare because they grow only under special environmental conditions. Here are some of them.

#1 Mangosteen grows in Asia. Its edible part is white with mild aroma.

#2 Cupuacu is the national fruit of Brazil. Its pulp is rich in vitamins and smells like a mix of chocolate and pineapple.

#3 African Horned Cucumber is used for salads and snacks. It has a refreshing taste.

#4 Jabuticaba is native to Brazil. It resembles grape and is used in jam.

#5 Miracle Fruit makes acidic foods taste sweet.

#6 Rambutan grows in South East Asia and tastes like grape.

#7 Ackee is the national fruit of Jamaica. It can be poisonous and that's why it is banned in some countries.

#8 Cherimoya grows in South America. It contains a lot of vitamins, minerals and balances blood pressure.

pear apple, grows on cactus in the SWWouthwest, you must peel before eating so you do not ingest a thorn.

Mangosteen taste like peaches and cream. Absolutely delectable! The trees only grow in shade and take twenty years to bear fruit hence the rarity.

Ackee is probably one I don’t want to try at all. But the others? I’d try at least once.

The only one I knew was rambutan. I have never tasted it but heard about it from my daughter who spent some tome living in Bintulu.

Cherimoya looks like custard apple which we used to grow in our garden. Too many seeds for me, though my daughter loves it. Rambutin is also popular in our household along with mangosteen when in season. Longan is my favourite though not mentioned here.

Michele Dix, lt's actually chirimoya and it is sweet and soft. lts a seasonal fruit that ripens very quickly. lt is similar in taste and appearance to brazilian guanabana, though much smaller.

Gini Araiza, I prefer to buy lychees as the taste is very similar and the seed is smaller therefore there is more flesh by weight. In Australia lychees are also cheaper. I don't agree that they taste like grapes.
