I don't know where they got the information for this, but it wasn't anything like that when I was growing up: We always fought (for real) in the car. We tried getting each other in trouble all the time. We had our own circles of friends. We never helped each other with anything until we were yelled at. We didn't share unless told to. No secret language. And my friends had my back way before any of my siblings. My friends and their siblings were the same way. I can't relate to this article at all.

Whoever wrote this must have grown up in a 1950's television sit-com. What a fairytail life they imagine! LOL

I disowned my siblings: bunch of back stabbings, annoying, manipulating, worthless idiots. Except for one. I don't go around them anymore, and I'm happier for it.

Whose fantasy was this? I had one of those things--the hand-me-down clothes. For me, having an older sister was a set-up for lifelong bullying. She never had my back, and I never got to share her friends. I am now finishing up litigation to put a legal stop to the bullying.

My sibs were always more important to me than friends, and each of us 4 got upset if one was sick, or in trouble. Into old age, I still grieve for those now passed and regard my only one left as more precious than ever. Squabbling made no difference to the underlying bond.

None of that was true in my family. Not realistic for many families. If you were lucky you’d have some of these items listed.

Nina Kamwene, My 44 yr old daughter is also an only child although she has a half brother Mason who has the same father Dave and a different mother Pam. Now, Tanya & Lincoln have an almost 10 yr old daughter Isla and a 7 1/2 yr old son Finley.

11 You fight like dogs for attention. My sister stabbed me in the hand at dinner. It wasn't as food fight.

Life with my siblings wasn't quite as sunny as described but, overall, they are a blessing.

None of this applied to me and my siblings. I was the youngest, there was a 12 year gap between me and my youngest sister, and a 14 year gap between me and my youngest brother. Didn’t share anything, food, clothes, friends.

Well, they're also (most of the time) always there for support also.

I am the oldest of seven kids, I remember great times and also not so great. We fought and argued like any family but it was instilled in us to stand together against any threat to us . It was all for one and one for all. Looking back the 50s were a great time to grow up. We are all still a very close family albeit a very large one now.

Exact opposite experience. More fighting and yelling and jealousy than protecting and loving. Siblings tend to fight a lot, even if they love each other.

The opposite n my case. My son has always been protective towards his younger sister and although they are 45 and 42 respectively now they still have that relationship. It's always great to see the way they interact
