Some people may not want to see my reply to this but here we go. Why is it that so many ascribe to evolution? God created each living organism. Someday in the future we will all find out. Evolution is only a theory and not a fact. There you have my comment, like it or not.

When I was about 13 I read an article that said when you get the hiccups take a deep breath as deep down as you can. keep doing that until the hiccups stop. If you do that every time you get the hiccups you will start having less hiccups. Now when I hiccup I only hiccup one time and sometimes two times. If I ever hiccup three times I'll take a deep breath and the hiccups stop. That has worked for me for 62 years.

When I was about 8 months pregnant with my son, he would get the hiccups, regularly. At first my husband and I thought it was very funny because with every hiccup my very large baby bump jumped. Unfortunately, he would sometimes hiccup for ages and it became very unfunny after about an hour!

I remember Jennifer Mee. Later, her hiccups gave her some unwanted notoriety. 'Hiccup Girl' Jennifer Mee Guilty Of Murder Jennifer Mee, who became famous when she was 15 for her incurable hiccups, lured a man to a Florida home where he was shot dead. https://news.sky.com/story/hiccup-girl-jennifer-mee-guilty-of-murder-10433692

I seem to get them out of nowhere ... at least I can't see any connection to anything. The only cure for me is drinking a glass of water upside-down. But that's just me.

I hate hic-ups, so I treat them immediately. A cup/glass filled with tap water and a teaspoon. You ladle the water into your mouth with the teaspoon AS FAST AS YOU CAN. This (I think) results in swallowing the water and air simultaneously. It usually results in a couple of burps which seems to subdue the hic-ups immediately (takes less than a minute).
