4 unexpected ways music can be bad for you
As the old saying goes, music has charms that soothe a savage breast. Anyway, even something as marvelous as music can be harmful to us sometimes... Here are four ways in which music can harm more than it helps.
#1 It Can Damage Your Hearing
Using headphones and earbuds to tune out the world is a teenage staple. But blasting your favorite tunes at full volume has actually been shown to cause long term damage in hearing.
#2 Sad Music Can Negatively Impact Mental Health
Who doesn’t have a heartbreak playlist? It makes us feel that someone understands our pain and can sometimes provide much needed comfort. But dwelling too long in the land of sad songs can have the opposite effect making us more anxious and neurotic.
#3 It’s Not Great For Focus
Whether you’re studying or trying to make a work deadline, music has been shown to decrease your performance. Although many of us need our playlist to get in the zone, the best performance is achieved in silence.
#4 And Not Always Great For Driving!
Studies show that when drivers get to choose their own music to drive to, they are more careless and aggressive than when driving in silence or listening to neutral music.
