flanderschristy, Mean is average: In this case average (total dived by 8) is 73.375. Median is middle number. If odd number -straight forward. Lets add 9th number to above -say 120. Median is 73 (exactly 4 numbers that are lower than 73 & 4 that are higher. Since we only have 8 numbers -median is average of middle two (4th & 5th largest) -in this case average of 72,73 or 72.5. Hope this helps.

9/10 Always get median & mean mixed up

flanderschristy, the median is the middle of a range of numbers. When it is an odd amount, it’s easy, 9 numbers in order of value, it’s the middle number. When it’s an even number as in this group of 8, arrange the numbers in order of value, take the 4th & 5th number, in this case 72 & 73, add and divide by 2. 72+73 = 145/2=72.5 From Georgia, a Michigan Tech grad of ‘75 that also got it wrong

flanderschristy, you found the mean, not the median.

Now that I have read some of the other comments, I see that I'm not the only one questioning the answer to question #1. So does anyone else know if the answer to #1 is incorrect or are we?! PLEASE EXPLAIN!
Apr 24, 2021 11:01AM
9/10 This is my kind of math, basic! I'm still not sure how I got #1 incorrect. I went back after I finished the test & refigured the answer with a calculator. I got the same answer that I did the first time. (73.375) I added all 8 numbers together & then divided that sum by 8. Can someone PLEASE explain what I did wrong. It will drive me crazy trying to figure it out!!!
