The Great Depression did not begin with the stock market crash of 1929. It began with the passage of the Smoot-Hawley Tariff of 1930.

Alan Shepard was sub-orbital, John Glenn is considered the first American to go into space.

John Greiner, I knew Shepard was the first to go into space, but when I saw Armstrong's name, I was thinking walking on the moon, so I hurriedly checked that one. Dang! :)

18 of 19. I missed the question on the first US astronaut, but there is some disagreement about what constitutes the definition of where "space" begins. I knew Shepard had gone up first, but his flight was sub-orbital. Glen was the first US astronaut to go high enough to orbit the earth, which of course he did, so I chose him. Now there a questions about what we call the "space tourists". Are they astronauts? Some say they are (including the people who pay for seats), some say they are not, even if they trained for months (such as Nelson, the current director of NASA, who does not consider himself an astronaut despite the training the the length of time he was up there).

18 of 19 and if an history teacher would fail this test, which I doubt, then they should not be teaching. Do they even teach history in schools these days?
