Yolanda Mora, You are grossly mistaken. North America and South America are as much the same continent as Europe and Asia are. In fact, by your thinking, it is far more rational to see Europe and Asia as one large land mass (continent) since they are joined by a much larger border (3,800 kilometers - 2,360 miles) than the 339-kilometer-long (211 mi) isthmus border between Panama and Colombia. There are only 7 continents: Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America. All land including Greenland, Canada, through the US and Mexico down to and including Panama are North America, plus most of the islands in the Caribbean. Central America is a REGION of North America. The border between Panama and Colombia is also the border between North America and South America.

mikeyparry, Those questioning Central American countries are misinformed. Central America was not included because it is NOT a separate continent. It is a REGION of NORTH AMERICA. The border between Panama and Colombia is also the border between North America and South America. Christopher Skinner, Belize is directly south of Mexico's Yucatan peninsula in the REGION of NORTH AMERICA known as Central America. Central America is NOT a separate continent. Central America comprises 7 countries between Mexico and Colombia, all of which are part of the North American continent. All land including Greenland, Canada, through the US and Mexico down to and including Panama are North America, plus most of the islands in the Caribbean. The border between Panama and Colombia also marks the border between North America and South America.

buhlemann, I was with you until you raised an issue with Central America. Do you seriously think Central America is its own continent? Central America has always been a REGION of NORTH AMERICA! There are 7 continents: Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America.

Antonio Cobian, You are mistaken. North America comprises lands from Greenland, Canada, the US, Mexico, and the 7 countries of Central America down to and including Panama, plus most of the Caribbean islands including Cuba, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the Bahamas.

mikeyparry, Central America is a region of North America. Central America is NOT a continent of its own. North America runs from Greenland and Canada down to and including Panama. When you cross the southern border of Panama, entering Colombia, you leave North America and enter South America.

Granted that several countries are in Central America but the question was which continent. Central America is part of the North America continent. The South American continent is south of Panama.
