I've read about Alaska being the east most point of the USA, but it is just an artificial contrivance of the International date line. In reality, you have to travel east to any other part of the USA. Making it the most WESTERLY part.

Alaska is on the West Coast.

mescall, Alaska has both the easternmost and westernmost points in the United States. A geographical oddity. It has to do with the hemispheres and the 180th meridian.

David Heinz, as an Aussie I would love it be the Dingo Fence, but I have just looked and it is around 5000km while the Great Wall is saying over 20,000km.

mescall, Yes it is. Alaska is the Northern most, Westernmost, and Easternmost US state. It is Easternmost because some of the Aleutian Islands cross 180° of longitude, putting them in the Eastern hemisphere, which is East of the Western Hemisphere wherein Maine is situated.
